SVEB 1 Basel - SVEB Certificate in Basel

SVEB Certificate Course Instructor - What exactly is SVEB?

The SVEB is a Swiss organization for continuing education, founded in 1951 and originally named "Swiss Association for Adult Education". Today's abbreviation SVEB stands for the goals of the association, namely the coordination and assurance of high-quality continuing education in Switzerland.

The SVEB represents the interests of the continuing education industry in politics and serves as a mediator between continuing education institutions and the government. Together with the federal government, the association develops framework conditions for recognized professional certifications.

SVEB's members include both private and government providers, associations, in-house continuing education departments and individuals. The association's headquarters are in Zurich, but there are also regional secretariats in French and Italian-speaking Switzerland.
In 2021, SVEB had 766 members.

Who makes decisions within SVEB?

SVEB has three decision-making bodies: the Assembly of Delegates, the Board of Directors and the Forum Romand.
The Assembly of Delegates is the highest decision-making body of SVEB and meets once a year in May. The assembly is traditionally followed by a symposium on a current education policy topic, which is free of charge for all interested parties from the continuing education sector.
The Board is the governing body of SVEB and consists of five to nine members elected by the Assembly of Delegates. The board makes decisions on the strategic direction of the association and is responsible for implementing the decisions of the delegates' assembly.

The Forum Romand is an advisory body of the SVEB office in French-speaking Switzerland.

What is part of the SVEB's remit?

The SVEB has several areas of responsibility in the field of continuing education in Switzerland. One of the projects of the association is the SVEB certificatewhich allows qualified persons to lead continuing education courses in their field of expertise. Formerly known as SVEB I, it has been replaced by two new training courses: the "SVEB-Certificate Instructor - Conducting Learning Events" for people who want to lead group classes, and the "SVEB-Certificate Instructor - Individual Coaching" for people who want to accompany adults in individual lessons.

In addition, the SVEB coordinates the cooperation between various continuing education institutions and works to ensure a high quality of continuing education in Switzerland. The association represents the interests of the continuing education sector vis-à-vis politicians and works together with the federal government on framework conditions for professional certifications that are recognized throughout Switzerland.
