I just finished the B1 super-intensive course here, and I had a very positive experience. I had a few gaps in my knowledge from the A2 level, but I still found the course manageable and, for the most part, not too hard to understand—thanks to our teacher, Luca. We all understood all the topics, and I think the course is genuinely very effective.

My C1 German class instructor is open-minded. In addition to the textbook material, we often find ourselves discussing other interesting topics, which makes the Saturday class very enjoyable.

The people are nice, but the test is really hard—still, it's good.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Saturday French Classes

Learn more about our French courses

Yes. The Saturday French course at ILS Basel is held exclusively on Saturdays. For levels A1 through B1, classes are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. B2 and C1 classes take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. This makes the course particularly suitable for people who work during the week or are unable to attend regular evening classes.

Yes. You have four consecutive lessons on Saturday, which makes for a longer study session. To ensure lasting progress, however, it’s still a good idea to schedule short review sessions during the week. Even a little vocabulary practice, French podcasts, or short texts can help you stay in touch with the language until the following Saturday.

A sub-level such as A1.1, B1.2, or C1.1 lasts 8 weeks and consists of 32 lessons. A full level lasts 16 weeks and consists of a total of 64 lessons. Therefore, you can also start by taking just a single sub-level.

Yes. Courses are offered from A1 to C1. If you don't speak French yet, you can start with A1. If you already have some knowledge of the language, a placement test will help you find the right level.

The classes combine conversation, listening comprehension, and writing exercises. The goal is not only to learn French in theory, but also to be able to apply it more and more in realistic conversational and everyday situations.

Courses begin with a minimum of 3 participants and are held in small groups of no more than 8 people. This allows for more opportunities for active participation, questions, and speaking exercises.

Yes. You can join a course that's already in session, provided your French level matches that of the group. You'll only pay for the lessons you actually book.
