The telc examination for general language skills in German

This certificate proves that you have mastered the German language at an advanced level and confirms your ability to communicate in everyday situations.

The telc examination consists of a written and an oral part in which the participants have to solve tasks in all skills. The receptive part includes reading, listening and language building blocks and may include task types such as multiple choice or matching. In the productive part, writing and speaking, participants have to deal with a given input and express their opinions in writing or orally. During the oral exam, the focus is on direct exchange between the test takers.

The telc exam is available in three different formats: digital, hybrid and paper-based. It is possible to take the exam as a partial exam.

German Level B2 - The CEFR Level B2

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) divides language skills into six levels of competence: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2.

  • Learners at level B2 are able to communicate spontaneously and fluently in such a way that a normal conversation with native speakers is possible without major difficulties on either side.
  • You can understand complex texts on concrete and abstract topics and grasp the main content.
  • In addition, you can express yourself clearly and in detail on a wide range of topics, explain a point of view on current issues, and indicate the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
